The MacColls are believed to have ancestral ties to Clan Donald, though there is a tradition suggesting they resided near Loch Fyne in Campbell territory and eventually joined Clan Campbell. However, historical accounts indicate conflicts with other clans, including the MacGregors.
In 1602, tensions escalated when they clashed with the MacPhersons at Drum Nachder, resulting in a severe defeat and the death of their leader. The Maccoll Modern Tartan, typically crafted from Acrylic Wool, features dark green and red hues, lending balance and elegance to the design.
